Sambalpur University was Started on 10th Dec, 1966 following act to fullfill long dream for candidates of Western Odisha University, functions over 1st January 1967 with Prof Parsuram Mishra as the 1st Vice chancelor, and honourable A.N.Khosla, its functions 1967 rented private building at Dhanpali, Sambalpur in government build at Ainthaplai Sambalpur from 1968-1972, presents campus name Jyothi Vihar at Burla. over 10 districts of state of Odisha namely Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Bargarh, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Nawapara, Kalahandi, Boudh and Athamallik Sub-Division of Angul District.
